This new feature will ask you to choose the gender that best represents how you identify even if it differs from what's on your driver's license or other government-issued ID.
Uber plans to use this information in new safety features they will be rolling out here soon. Like one that will allow women and non-binary drivers to set a preference of picking up only female riders.
If released this new feature would go in line with other features Uber has taken from other rideshare companies like Uber Pet. That idea was originally taken from another up and coming rideshare company called SpotOn.pet a rideshare service for dogs. With this new feature they will mimic Safr a rideshare company for Women.
This new feature sounds great right? But, how will Uber prevent male drivers from identifying as women or non-binary driver just so they can only pick up female passengers. See for us we feel there are things that could go seriously wrong. What's your take? Do you welcome this new feature coming to the Uber drivers app or do you hope it doesn't?
