What is Lyft Cash?
It’s a payment method that lets riders add money to their Lyft account to pay for rides.
How Does It Work
You can set up Lyft Cash by clicking the Payment tab in your Lyft app. When you add money or a gift card to your Lyft Cash balance, you can use it immediately. If the balance of your Lyft Cash doesn’t cover the full cost of a ride your default method will be charged. If you want your Lyft Cash to cover the entire ride cost, you can add to your balance by going to the Payment’s tab and selecting +Add Cash.
If you don’t want to use Lyft Cash, you can turn it off in the Ride Payment section when requesting a ride.
Note: Lyft Cash can’t be used for all Lyft charges, such as lost and found fees, damage fees, and gift cards.
How To Add Cash
- Open the app menu and tap Payment.
- Tap + Add cash and Select the amount you want to add.
- Auto refill is turned on by default. Tap the slider to turn it off if you don’t want your balance to refill automatically.
- Tap Check out.
- Select the payment method you want to use to add Lyft Cash.
- Tap Purchase.
Note: If you want to use a new payment method, go back to the Payment tab and tap + Add payment method under Payment methods.
Supported Payment Methods
You can add to your Lyft Cash balance with the following payment methods:
- Credit card
- Debit card
- Prepaid card
- Bank account
- Digital or retailer gift cards
Note: You can’t add to your balance using commuter cards, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal.
How To Add A Gift Card
- Open the app menu.
- Tap on the ‘Payment’ tab.
- Tap the gift card icon.
- Enter the gift card code and the PIN.
Managing Lyft Cash
Auto refill:
- Open the menu and tap Payment.
- Tap ‘Auto refill’
- Tap the slider next to Auto refill to turn it on or off.
- The slider will be green when it’s on and gray when it’s off.
- Tap the amount you want to refill when your balance falls below $15.
- Select the payment method you want to use for your automatic refills.
- Tap Save.
Change auto refill amount:
- Follow steps 1-3 above.
- Tap the amount to automatically refill.
- Review the payment method for automatic refills and tap Save.
How To Update Lyft Cash Payment Method:
- Open the app menu and tap Payment.
- Under the Lyft Cash section, tap the arrow on the right side of your payment method.
- Select the payment method you want to use for refilling your Lyft Cash.
- If you want to use a new payment method, tap + Add payment method.
