Steps Uber Eats drivers should take when doing alcohol deliveries

Check Sobriety: Common signs of intoxication

  • Impaired reactions and coordination
  • Stumbling
  • Fumbling for their ID
  • Slurred speech

Request ID:

When arriving to customers location request a valid, government-issued photo ID from the customer.

Identification can be:

  • US driver’s license
  • Passport (US or international)
  • US state ID or US military ID
  • The only acceptable non-US IDs are passports
  • Please request a valid, government-issued photo ID from the customer.
  • This identification can be a US driver’s license, passport (US or international), US state ID or US military ID. The only acceptable non-US IDs are passports.
  • IDs such as library cards, school IDs, or identification without a photo are not acceptable.

If a customer should not produce a valid ID, hit the “Customer doesn’t have valid ID” button in your Driver app, doing this will initiate a return trip. Also, let the customer know you can’t deliver the alcohol without a valid ID.

Checking identity:

When checking the ID make sure the person who you’re handing the alcohol to matches the photo of the person on the ID. Also, make sure the customer’s name in your Driver app matches the name on the customers ID.

If either the name doesn’t match or the person doesn’t match the picture on the ID, hit the “Customer doesn’t have valid ID” button in your Driver app, which will start your return trip.

Confirming Age (21+) and Capturing Photos:

In the Driver App, follow steps you need to capture a photo of the front and backside of the customers ID to confirm the customer is over 21.

  • Place the card in the frame and make sure all text is clear and visible
  • Avoid glares or shadows in the photo
  • After submitting the front and back photos, please allow 30-45 seconds for ID verification to complete.
  • This step must be completed for all customers, no matter what age they appear. It is illegal to deliver alcohol to anyone under 21.

Complete the trip: Hand the customer their order and complete the trip

Note: If the customer can’t provide a valid government issued ID, you can cancel the trip. You will be paid by the customer to return the order to the store.
