Uber introduces a new feature for riders with pets

Updated: Feb 5

Uber has introduced a new feature that aims to reduce cancellations as a result of riders bringing pets along for the ride.

Riders can now select Uber Pet before selecting a ride. A surcharge of $3 to $5 will be included in the upfront pricing when the option is selected in the app.

For drivers who have allergies or who don’t want to deal with shedding and clean up. They have the choice to opt out of service in the preference section of the driver app.

Drivers who choose to welcome those pets as passengers, will be guaranteed to receive a “significant portion” of the surcharge on top of their standard trip earnings.

Service animals are exempt in accordance with state and federal law.

Starting on October 16th Uber Pet will be available to all customers in the following cities: Austin, Denver, Nashville, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Tampa Bay.
