Uber is looking to use ultrasound technology to instantly recognize the right car and driver

Updated: Feb 5

Later this year Uber will be introducing a new safety feature called Veirfy Your Ride. Which gives riders a four-digit pin to verbally give to their driver.

Uber is hoping to make this verification automatic in early 2020 by using ultrasound technology. However, they are still working to optimize the feature to handle background noise, and music that could interfere with a phone's ability to emit or receive sound. They also have to secure the permissions needed to access the microphones of riders and drivers.

The real question is, does anyone really trust Uber enough to give them access to the microphone on their phone?
